In 2023, big action movies like John Wick 4, Fast X, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny were all about wrapping up their stories. It seems like action movies are changing because older action stars are retiring. New actors need to step up and keep the excitement alive.
Now, in 2024, it looks like a new era of action movies is starting. There are a bunch of movies coming out that are either remakes, sequels, or prequels to old classics. Even though some people might complain about not having new ideas, these movies are a chance to show off new talent. Maybe these new actors will even create their own classic action movies in the future.

The Beekeeper
Jason Statham is the main guy in a movie called The Beekeeper. He’s a tough action hero who used to work for a secret group called “The Beekeepers.” Now, he’s pulled back into his old dangerous job when he goes on a mission to get revenge.
Argylle
This funny action movie has a bunch of famous actors in it. Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, and John Cena are all in it. The story is about a writer who usually keeps to herself, writing spy stories. But then, her fictional stories start coming to life, and she gets dragged into a real spy adventure.
Road House
Jake Gyllenhaal is the main actor in a new version of a movie from 1989 with the same name. The original movie had Patrick Swayze as the star. But in this new one, there’s a modern change. Gyllenhaal’s character used to fight in the UFC but now works at a bar in Florida.
The Fall Guy (May 3, 2024):
Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt act together in this funny action movie. It’s about a guy who used to do stunts in movies. But now, he’s brought back to do a stunt when the person who usually does them goes missing. This person is in a movie that his ex-girlfriend is making. So, he has to find them.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24, 2024):
After the exciting movie Mad Max: Fury Road, there’s going to be another one about a character named Furiosa before the events in that movie. Furiosa was really popular in Fury Road. Charlize Theron played her then, but now, a younger version of Furiosa will be played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Chris Hemsworth will also be in the movie with a big part.
Ballerina (June 7, 2024):
John Wick fans will get a new movie in 2024 called Ballerina. It’s about Ana de Armas, who plays a ballerina and assassin. She’s out for revenge against the people who killed her family. This movie happens between John Wick 3 and 4. Hopefully, it’s better than The Continental miniseries.
Twisters (July 19, 2024):
Twisters is a new movie that comes after the one made in 1996. It’s about the daughter of the main characters, Jo and Bill, from the first movie. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell are starring in it. The director, Lee Isaac Chung, did a great job with some episodes of The Mandalorian and got nominated for an Oscar for another movie called Minari.
Deadpool 3 (July 26, 2024):
Ryan Reynolds is back as the funny Deadpool, who likes to talk directly to the audience. This time, he’s in his fourth movie as the Marvel character. And guess what? Hugh Jackman is joining him again as Wolverine! If you’ve been hoping to see the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this movie might make your wish come true.
Alien: Romulus (August 16, 2024):
In the latest movie of the Alien series, Cailee Spaeney plays Priscilla. This movie happens between the first and second Alien films. It probably won’t have much connection to the other movies, so don’t hope for a cameo from Sigourney Weaver.
Gladiator 2
Russell Crowe’s famous movie Gladiator is coming back with a new story. Even though Crowe’s character died in the first movie, Paul Mescal, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Aftersun, will now play Lucious when he’s grown up. Lucious will be in the same arena where his dad fought. Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal are also starring in the movie.
